The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
How Communities In Schools Works
Communities In Schools helps students stay in school and make right choices by connecting schools with needed community resources. By bringing resources, services, parents, and volunteers into schools, we create a community of caring adults who work hand in hand with educators.
Communities In Schools helps communities assess the needs of their youth. We then design plans for meeting those needs, using existing resources. We connect young people with services in a variety of ways: In some schools, services are made available to all students and their families.
In other schools, Communities In Schools connects services with particular students in need, either on a one-time basis or as part of a carefully monitored case management system. Communities In Schools also brings community resources to students and families through after-school programs. We accomplish these tasks by bringing the "Five Basics" into the school.

A Shallowater Christmas Story
Christmas
is all about giving and at times some families have a difficult
time providing for their families. As always, the Shallowater
community (family) pulled together and helped these families in
need during the holidays. Several members of the Baptist
Church, Community and school organizations adopted several CIS
students and their families for the Christmas Holidays with
either a food basket and or gifts for the students. Three
volunteers helped with shopping for gifts and wrapped these
treasured items.
To see the surprise, excitement, thankfulness, and tears in the mother’s eyes was a heart warming feeling. One mother stated, “I’m happy and excited for my kids. Just knowing that they are going to have a Christmas this year makes me happy for them. Because this was going to be their Christmas”. She pointed to an empty Christmas tree.
Due to the generosity of the Shallowater Community and Shallowater Middle School Students Counsel several students and their families where able to experience a very joyful Christmas Holiday.
